A Streamlined Family Duplex
This ground- and first-floor apartment in Park Slope required a full overhaul to become a bright, functional family home. We kept things minimal by way of whitewashed brick walls and wainscoting to maximize the light in the space, especially in the ground floor areas. A thoughtful kitchen layout offers plenty of counter- and eating-space with a pale marble island and built-in dining bench facing a colorblocked custom Fitzhugh Karol dining table. The room opens directly into the backyard via glass double doors for easy entertaining. Subtle nods to classic New England style appear in the beadboard walls and light fixtures, including caged wall sconces and exposed-bulb pendants. Against these simple finishes, design moments like monolithic wood dining stools and a floral glass chandelier make especially bold statements.
